Another fabulous post. Shared it with my bride. “How do they do it? Do they come from money?” I said “I think they are powered by a big dream to see all the wild places”
She’ll cook for you when you get to San Diego and make a warm place for you to sleep. I’ll do some magic tricks.
Thanks for following along with us, for your constant kind words!
You are right about our dream of the wild. And your wife is right; we have received a lot of emotional support from our families; they helped launch us into the life of our dreams. But we have also worked hard to make it happen! Before leaving our “regular” jobs, we saved over 50% of what we earned and left with a lump sum. On the road, Most of our income has come from James’ filmmaking; he does short internet videos for nonprofits, corporations, and small surf websites. But we have also picked up a motley crew of random jobs, from scrubbing out fountains, to frying pretzels at the fair, to milking goats. If you aren’t too picky about what you do, a job with money will always find you and fund you till the next one comes. We also work on small farms every few months in exchange for room and board. And we try to limit the amount of money we need!
We will have to make it back to San Diego someday to visit with you and meet your bride–we heard so much about her and it would be a pleasure to meet in person.
Our world sure is amazing, isn’t it? Beauty is all around us, and the universe makes sure to remind us every day. Our realities should all be rife with such magic.

Awesome! So refreshing to see this beauty so close to
home. Hard to imagine these places even exist. Keep up the adventure. Y’all are an inspiration.

Rachel, your pack looks bigger and more full than James pack! Better keep an eye on him (<;
Michael,
It probably was! I have a packrat mentality and James is much better at whittling down his gear into needs instead of wants. When will I learn?!
Thanks for visiting us!
